Off The Record returns to Glasgow on Saturday 11 February for a day of workshops, presentations and talks catering for young people interested in working as musicians or in the music business. The event will take place in the Scottish Music Centre, which is partnering with founding organisation, Born To Be Wide.

Open to anyone aged 14-25, Off The Record focuses on key areas of the business, including releasing tracks, getting/organising gigs, promotion and employment opportunities. The event also features a listening session, where musicians can submit a song for feedback from the speakers.

“We are delighted to be working with the Scottish Music Centre and to be returning to the UK’s first UNESCO City Of Music,” says Born To Be Wide director Olaf Furniss. “Off The Record is a great opportunity for anyone interested in working in music to learn about how the basics work and make contacts.”

Events in the current series have already taken place in Aberdeen, Dundee, Galashiels, Edinburgh and Dumfries, with 92% of attendees surveyed responding they would “definitely” use what they had learned. Moreover, participation has led to airplay (including the BBC and Amazing Radio), gig/festival bookings and a range of employment opportunities.

Confirmed speakers include photographer Jannica HoneyJoe Rattray (Synergy Concerts), Michael Lambert (A Modern Way Management), Nadine Walker (Tenement TV), Beyond Presents promoter Nicky Carder, Olaf Furniss (Scotland on Sunday), Scott Kirkwood (Scottish Music Centre), music editor for The Skinny Tallah Brash and Toni Malyn (EmuBands). Additional speakers will be announced in the coming weeks.

Off The Record is supported by EmuBands, The Robertson Trust, the Musicians’ Union and the Scottish Government’s Youth Music Initiative (YMI), administered by Creative Scotland.
