OPPORTUNITY: Academy of Music & Sound Free Short Courses

The Academy of Music and Sound have announced a range of short courses free to those aged over 14 and living in Scotland. The courses start from March and will be held online in workshop blocks.

The courses have all been adapted for online learning and are targeted at those looking to learn new skills and gain a better understanding of particular areas of the music industry. There are five courses in total:

  • Sound Production

    Exploring the fundamentals of recording theory and best practice through streamed group classes and individual 1-1 lessons with experienced industry professionals. Classes are focused on exploring the dynamic range of recorded material and equalisation techniques applied to various genres and styles as well as employability skills.

  • Rap and Hip Hop, Songwriting / Beat Making

    Brand new course, led and curated by award-winning Scottish hip-hop artist Steg G. Create your own songs, lyrics, and explore various production methods around beat-making.

  • Wilms Songwriting

    Improve songwriting technique and lyrical writing. Work on melodies and chord progressions. Perform your original material in front of peers in a final performance and enjoy the space to network and collaborate.

  • Women in Music, Empowerment and Employability

    Gain knowledge, practical awareness, and confidence to create opportunities within the music industry. Meet like-minded women, tailor your CV, and gain priceless interview skills.

  • Digital Synthesis and Sampling

    The chance to learn how to program and use an Axoloti synthesizer. Upon completion of the course, you will even get to keep your synthesizer! The program has been developed in-house using Working in the Live Music Sector framework.
